The Jewish Community of Coro, Venezuela

The Jewish Community of Coro is a very important one historically for the region. Most of the original members for a couple of decades were the Sephardic Jews originally from Spain. The Venezuelan Jews today for the most part do not trace their lineages to the Jews of Coro. The journey of these Jews to Venezuela shows an important unbroken link to Venezuela. They came from the Iberian Peninsula to Curacao and then to Coro. Also, many came directly from Holland for the Cacao trade. 

The Jewish Cemetery of Coro is actually the oldest in the Americas in continuous Use. Most of the Jews were from Curacao and Holland before that and Spain and Portugal before that. In 1827, the Community was started and ended in 1855 when the Jews were driven back to Curacao. Important but short lived.

La Comunidad Judía de Coro es muy importante históricamente para la región. La mayoría de los miembros originales durante varias décadas fueron los judíos sefardíes originarios de España.
